Abstract

On the basis of a mathematical analysis of dynamic processes in the human visual system, this article develops a functional model that describes these processes. As a particular case, the functional model gives a numerical description of the Broca?Sulzer effect. Based on the similarity of the time constant of transient processes in bipolar cells and the time constant of the dynamic-memory link of the visual system found in experiments to measure the efficiency of the visual system when dynamic images are observed, it is hypothesized that the dynamic memory of the visual system is implemented by inertial processes that take place in the bipolar cells.
