Abstract

A panoramic video camera has been developed in order to demonstrate that it is possible to construct circular surveillance systems that use a panoramic mirror-lens objective (a panoramic annular lens). Panoramic photographic and video systems can be used when monitoring cavities (pipes, wells, mineshafts), when detecting and recording rapid processes (rocket launchings, explosions), in systems for the orientation and navigation of spacecraft, and when solving many other problems that require surveying space in a region close to a hemisphere.
